How do You Self-Care to fight Depression?

Depression comes in many ways and in many forms, for a wide range of reasons. It can happen at any time and be triggered by, what feels like, almost anything. It has a way of pulling you further into the abyss even though you watch it happen with a sense of remorse and guilt, yet lacking the willpower to stop it in its tracks. Once it has a hold of you, it’s as if nothing you reach for is in your grasps and anything you do happen to grab, just doesn’t stand a chance against the weight of your emotions. Despite how it feel you are the only person on the entire planet experiencing this, you are not alone in this particular struggle. Many of us not only find the abyss as easy as you, but lack the same personal will to grab our bootstraps and pull ourselves out. Even with so many reasons to smile, we tend to find comfort in worrisome and stress.

So what are you doing to counteract the effects of lounging around in your worries and what if’s? How do you embrace your self-care in order to fight depression? Knowing that it can be extremely difficult to pull ourselves out once one has already began falling, but what if you possessed the ability to close the roads you’ve opened for depression to find you? What if you could develop a self-care routine that helps you counterbalance the negative energies, and assists you with kicking depressive mannerisms? I put together a small list of things you can incorporate into your daily/weekly or monthly routines, or even just whenever you feel depression creeping your way.

 

Mind-cation

Send your mind on a mini vacation. Different concept right? How many times have you actually went on vacation or a get-a-way and didn’t really have a good time or get to enjoy yourself due to you always being worried about every little detail? Or you’re on vacation but can’t seem to not worry about the home front the entirety of your trip? “Are the animals ok? Did the kids destroy the house? Did the light bill come? I wonder if they took out the money for the cable. I bet I get a ticket for my grass while I’m gone. What about the food that may spoil while I’m away?” LEARN TO SEND YOUR MIND ON VACATION. Free yourself from the stresses of everyday life, the worries that you’re forgetting something or not doing your best, even if only for a couple of hours.

Herbal Baths

Baths lingering with flowers and adorned with herbs, possibly with candles around as well, have a way of reconnecting you with your Higher Self and bringing a sense of peace and calmness to the atmosphere. They also act as a reminder to you of your once forgotten Divine Feminine power that burns within, and is necessary for you to perform at your best. Turn on some music that resonates with purity and calms anxiety, you can YouTube “high vibrational music” and shift through the videos until you find one that soothes you.

Book – Time

Lounging around in pj’s drinking hot cocoa while reading a book that pulls at your Spirit and makes you want to create something different; a book that leaves you feeling inspired and passionate about change or ascension, is the ultimate force of reading. To embark on a journey that slowly carries you away from your current reality and gently drops you in the middle of a parallel Universe without fear or worrisome. Without remembrance of chores and daily tasks. Remind yourself that it’s ok to stop and enjoy your day. Forget the laundry, the floors can be mopped tomorrow and the kids can eat left-overs today. Make some time for your self-care routines, whatever those may be.

Spa-Day at Home

Not everyone has the capacity or economic ability to embrace monthly spa days with the girls, but that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t get to enjoy the same treatments. Once a month when the kids are off to school and the significant other is off to work, set your living room up for some spa treatments. Don’t be afraid to invest in your self-care routines! Get you a foot massage, bath salts, hair and face masks, even a pedicure/manicure set you can do at home, oh and don’t forget the wine, and GET YOUR SPA DAY ON!

Women have a tendency to ignore our needs for our wants, our requirements for our desires and our standards for someone else’s, but getting back to taking care of you and making sure you’re not pouring from an empty cup is a great example to set for your daughters, nieces, young cousins or just women in general. To remind them that not only is it ok to have a self-care routine, but it is something that is needed to remain in the position of the matriarch with grace and poise. There is power in resting and recovering so that you can respond with respect and rebirth your realignment.

Fuck Forgiveness?

Why is forgiveness so important and how do you find it for those that have harmed or betrayed you? How do you let go of the pain and hurt caused by the actions of another, and learn to forgive so you can move forward? Wishing there was a simple trick I could give that just automatically releases the pain from past experiences and creates new spaces for personal freedoms, but unfortunately there isn’t. You simply have to make the choice and put in the work: the choice to change your perspective, and the work it takes to do so.

Not everyone deserves your forgiveness and understanding, but that isn’t your responsibility or burden to carry. You can only be held accountable for the things you choose to do, and how you create your life. Even God told you that He helps those that help themselves, and that is in regards to EVERYTHING! Including your emotional and spiritual wellness.

Emotional wellness is directly linked to your overall happiness and joys of life. When you are in a mature and healthy space emotionally, you begin to transform your thinking and perceptions, which in turn transforms the foundation of reality for your current lifestyle.

Forgiving someone who has caused you hurt, is NEVER for them. It is SOLELY for the sake of your happiness, self-love and acceptance, and the number one way to take back your power! Remember that when you choose not to forgive someone, you give that person or situation power OVER YOU, your emotions and your life! You let them rent space in your head and heart for FREE, and after everything they’ve put you through, do they deserve that type of power? Do they deserve your bomb ass energy and God like frequencies?

Your grandparents are full of wisdom and knowledge, and my grandmother told me that becoming successful is the best revenge for ANY situation. So rise up beautiful Beings and learn to find comfort in the release of built up tension and anger. Simple changes in your perspective can drastically alter your current reality. You have to let go of the anger and hurt in order to carry the love and happiness the Universe has waiting for you.

What Is Wellness?

What comes to mind when you think of the word “Wellness”? Do you picture yourself in a quiet oasis getting a massage and relaxing, or does your mind start wondering off to a place flooded with positivity and happiness? Either way, you aren’t too far off from either of those thoughts. Wellness is the overall state of your entire Being; Mind, Body and Soul.

Wellness is about how you are doing physically, emotionally, spiritually, and mentally. Let’s dissect each one of those to ensure we are taking positive steps to the success of our wellness.

Being physically well is not limited to the practice of exercise, although this does play a major role. It is important to remember that your body is a temple, and returns the love you show it.  It is best to be as easy on your physical avatar as possible, especially when it comes to labor. Do your best to avoid as much hard labor as you possibly can during your working days, and if perhaps you cannot, be sure to do something to counteract the hardship you endure. For instance, if you do a lot of back-breaking work, then at the end of every night it is best to do stretches or yoga poses associated with realigning your spine. Doing things of this nature can help prevent back issues in the future. Being physically well can also pertain to your personal hygiene and self-care. When you feel and look your best, you do and perform at your best; when you do and perform at your best, you give and receive the best. Creating routines of personal hygienic and self-care habits, is a part of being mindful of your physical wellness.

Emotional wellness always has a way of presenting itself intimidatingly, and seems to be overwhelmingly confusing for most. Majority are not taught how or even why being emotionally aware is significant and beneficial to the development of our lives as adults. When we discover why it is important to stand in the space of our emotions rather than running in attempts at avoiding things we may not feel ready to deal with, it eases the path of learning how to move through those emotions to make it to the other side. Becoming well emotionally is how we begin to feel complete as a person and find comfort and happiness in being ourselves. One way to begin is to write down your unhealed trauma and find ways of releasing, so that you can replace.

So many people bunch wellness and spirituality in the same group, and with valid reasons to do so. When you become spiritually aware and begin to ensure you are living through love and innerstanding, it’s almost impossible to accomplish without being in a constant state of mindfulness. Being in a constant state of mindfulness is to be consistently aware of the over-all wellness of your avatar: the human body. Meditation, exercise, awareness, and reflection are a few simple ways to being your spiritual wellness journey.

Just like physical wellness is associated with exercise and movement, being mentally well is associated with the exercise and metaphorical movement of your brain! Your brain never shuts down, never sleeps, is never quiet and never still. It is in an infinite state of existence, to be everlasting through every realm. To think a thought you must already be thinking about thinking; it is the emptiness and fullness of completely nothing and absolutely everything. Your mental is the starting place for peace, love, and happiness. When you take steps to becoming mentally well, it trickles down like corporate punishment. A great way to embark on the journey of mental wellness is to write down some of your negative thinking and find a positive replacement.

Wellness is getting recognized more and more as a significant foundation and solution for the over-all healthiness of our entire population. Get Well, Get Wealthy!

Don’t Give Up, You’re Almost There

This is for you. The one who feels like a complete failure, again. You let them in and they destroyed what little love you have left lingering around inside, even though you expressed the need to never feel that way again. You tried to be happy but you just couldn’t find a reason. This is for you. The one who struggles with suicidal thoughts and wonders if the world would be better off without you. If anyone would miss you or even notice if you were gone. This if for you. The one who battles with depression masked with fabricated laughter and smiles that no none seems to even care to notice. This is for you. The one who wrestles with self-loathing ideas because you believe in your ability to always “fuck shit up” based on past perceptions.  The idea that you were never good enough, and that will never change. This is for you. The one who constantly argues with themselves about how selfish it is to do something for you. How easily you’re placed last in line because, hey, why not right? This is for you. The one who fights with others to have their own voice minus the concern of offensiveness. Who spend their days in defensiveness towards their own rights and capabilities to possess control of Self. This is for you.

    You are not alone. You are not the only one battling this war on self.  You’re backed by Universal energies and the frequencies of those you’ve loved that have transitioned into another existence. You are never alone!

    So this is for you. You’re not a failure, you just figured out another option that doesn’t work. Keep going the path is being paved as we speak. This is for you. Fuck that selfish person that tried to destroy you after everything you’ve been through. Their karma awaits them. Your karma for them is to go be dastardly happy! This is for you. The one who has to search for reasons to smile, YOU are the only reason you’ll ever need to smile!  This is for you. NO the world is NEVER better off without you! YES the world would miss you! YES the world would be a darker place without the Light of your Spirit. And YES there are plenty of people who would be saddened by your departure. This is for you. Those fabricated smiles will turn into genuine joy, and you will attract those that care to notice when your joy fades. This is for you. You’re not perfect and we ALL fuck shit up throughout this lifetime. You’re not alone. You will never be perfect but will always and INFINITELY be good enough! This is for you. Self-care and self-appreciation IS NOT SELFISH! And they are mandatory for being able to hold down the fort. This is for you. SPEAK THAT BEAUTIFUL MIND and NEVER deplete your energy for the entitled comfort-ability of someone else. Your truth is beautiful! This is for you!

Bread-less Pizza Crust?

 I continuously provide vegan and vegetarian meal recipe and alternatives for multiple reasons, including those that are unsure about where to begin and how to incorporate new changes in their cooking habits. This recipe comes from Erica at Vegan Now in South Africa, where she is perfecting her skills and reconnecting with Self, and decided to share with us numerous recipes for healthier eating.

This is a new take on pizza crust for those looking to stay away from bread, but still wanting to enjoy great foods.

|Makes 2 Medium Sized Crusts|V + GF

Ingredients

1.5 cups ground polenta • 3.5 cups vegetable broth • 1 Tbsp olive oil • 1 tsp salt • 1 tsp garlic powder • 1 tsp oregano • 1 tsp basil  • 1/2 tsp parsley • 1/4 tsp black pepper

Instructions

  1. Line (2) 11′ round pans with parchment paper or use a nonstick spray and line with a little margarine.
  2. Over high heat, bring vegetable stock to a boil. Reduce heat to medium and add olive oil, salt, garlic powder, oregano, basil, parsley, and black pepper.
  3. Whisking or stirring with a wooden spoon continuously, pour in polenta and continue whisking for 3-5 minutes until smooth and thick. You are looking for a stiff, but stir-able consistency.
  4. Scoop an even amount onto each pan and spread evenly around the pan. It should be about 1/4 – 1/2″ thick. *It is easiest to spread with slightly wet hands, spoon or silicone spatula.
  5. Set the pans in the fridge for about 30 minutes to set. If fridge doesn’t fit, leave on a surface for double the time
  6. Remove from the fridge and pre-heat your oven to 450 degrees (F).
  7. Bake crusts for about 25 minutes, flipping once halfway through. *Use a spatula to flip. While the crust is baking, pre-cook any veggies (if desired).
  8. Once the crust is done baking, layer with tomato sauce and toppings of your choice.
  9. Broil on low on the top rack for a few minutes until toppings are slightly browned.

Cut, serve, and enjoy!

Not sure about anyone else, but I absolutely loved this pizza alternative and can’t imagine ever returning to regular pizza!
